Snapdragon X65 breaks record

Snapdragon X65 breaks record with download speeds exceeding 10 Gbps through 5G mmWave spectrum

Qualcomm Technologies has long been a leader in pioneering the latest advancements in cellular and wireless technology. From 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi to the continued growth of 5G, including 5G mmWave, we invent breakthrough technologies that help make the world more connected.

Today, we achieved another world’s first — a groundbreaking new milestone in 5G mmWave performance. In a public demo at MWC21, our flagship Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System broke cellular download speed records, surpassing 10 Gbps downloads.

World’s First 10 Gigabit 5G Modem-RF System

Download speeds of over 10 Gbps were unimaginable during the early eras of 3G and 4G cellular connectivity. Progress in 5G redefined speed and capacity, with the large amount of spectrum for high-frequency bands provided by 5G mmWave now enabling the fastest mobile upload and download speeds in the US, China, and Germany – 16 times faster than those of regular 5G sub-6.

This new 10 Gigabit 5G era using mmWave connectivity is yet another giant leap forward in how 5G technology improves the day-to-day user mobile experience. For instance, with 5G mmWave fixed wireless access, users can get fiber-like multi-Gigabit speeds and stream their favorite shows in 4K resolution, shine at group video calls, and work with colleagues from home using cloud-connected applications — the experiences they deserve.

Users’ experiences aren’t just improved at home. At everyday places like the office, school, factory, campus, shopping mall, and the train station, 5G mmWave is designed for leading-edge connectivity. That means lightning-fast and responsive connections for phones, 5G PCs, mobile hotspots, and office and industrial equipment.

5G mmWave also delivers increased capacity across airports, stadiums, convention centers, busy pedestrian street areas, and other crowded venues. Ultimately, 5G mmWave unlocks the full potential of 5G networks with unmatched multi-Gigabit wireless speeds and low-latency connectivity, even among large crowds using the network.

5G momentum continues around the world. 5G mmWave is commercially available in the U.S. and Japan, along with rollouts in Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia and (soon) Latin America. 5G mmWave is also expected in China for the Winter Olympics in early 2022.

At MWC21, more than 30 operators and OEMs expressed their commitment to 5G mmWave. These companies rely on Qualcomm Technologies’ strong portfolio of 5G technologies and modem-RF and infrastructure products to continue further deployments.

Along with cutting-edge 5G mmWave connectivity, the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System also facilitates incredible connectivity for superior 5G sub-6 performance. The implementation of 5G sub-6 uplink carrier aggregation extends coverage and adds even more capacity for better performance and all-day battery life. During his keynote at MWC21, CEO Cristiano Amon demonstrated 5G sub-6 uplink carrier aggregation in Snapdragon X65, reaching more than 790 Mbps uploads. 5G carrier aggregation helps improve speeds and reliability in challenging wireless conditions so consumers can enjoy faster file transfers and smoother video calls.

Whether it’s lightning-fast 5G mmWave speeds or ultra-reliable sub-6 performance, the Snapdragon X65 helps bring the 5G spectrum to wherever you need it. Record-breaking 10 Gbps downloads over mmWave and sub-6 uplink carrier aggregation are just some of the latest breakthroughs for Qualcomm Technologies and the Snapdragon X65, and build on an extensive portfolio of cellular and wireless technologies that empower users to connect, compute, and communicate.
